Tanagers victors in District 8A semi-final by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers defeated the Dakota Valley Panthers 62-49 in boys' basketball March 3 at Elk Point in the semi-finals of the District 8A Tournament.
"These games are tough to play when you are the favored team," said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. "I was happy with our effort. When they made a run, we answered. We got good balanced scoring. It was a good win for us."
The Tanagers heated things up from three-point range, hitting 7 of 13 from long distance.
The Tanagers led 19-8 after the first quarter, went into the locker room up 34-19 at halftime, and then led 49-38 after the third period.
Vermillion improved its record to 10-9, while Dakota Valley dropped to 3-17.
The Vermillion varsity hit 9 of 12 from the line. The Tanagers connected on 23 of 50 field goals, while Dakota Valley was 18 of 43 from the field. The Panthers hit 6 of 9 from the line.
