Touchstone Energy donating 'Get Charged' curriculum kits Middle school and junior high students in communities across the state will soon be learning about electricity in an exciting new way. The communities' local Touchstone Energy electric cooperatives are donating Get Charged! electricity curriculum kits to all the public and private middle/junior high schools in their service territories.
The Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are trying to spark a new interest in electricity for students in grades 5-9. The cooperatives nationwide teamed up with the Discovery Channel to create a comprehensive electricity curriculum kit for middle/junior high school classrooms.
The Get Charged! kit provides a variety of educational tools including videos, CD-ROMs, a Teacher's Resource Guide, student activity books and other collateral materials to augment the existing curriculum. These instructional materials support key learning standards that are a part of the No Child Left Behind Act.
The program gives students a real-world understanding of power, the purpose of electricity and the important role electric cooperatives play in delivering the "juice" that runs their everyday lives.
The local electric cooperatives involved in this project provide electric power in South Dakota and western Minnesota. They are local, active members of their communities, dedicated to supporting and improving our way of life.
More than 600 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives in 44 states deliver electric power and energy solutions to more than 18 million customers every day. They serve commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential customers with integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
