USD student awarded scholarship from fraternity Delta Tau Delta member Joe Holt, a senior from Aberdeen, received a national scholarship from his fraternity. The Johns/Gustafson Scholarship was established in 1996 to recognize the service of Kevin Johns and Ned Gustafson to the fraternity.
Two scholarships of $1,500 each are awarded to Delts annually to recognize chapter leadership, campus and civic leadership. There are over 120 Delta Tau Delta chapters throughout the country.
On campus, Holt has served as his chapter's vice-president, pledge educator, alumni relations chairs, and Strollers director.
He has also severed as the judicial chair for the Inter Fraternity Council, morale captain for dance marathon, orientation teams member, student ambassador, and sports editor for the Volante student newspaper. In the community, he has participated in philanthropy and community services events hosted by Delta Tau Delta.
He has also volunteered as a third grade Sunday schoolteacher and Vacation Bible School coordinator.
"I am very proud of Joe and his accomplishments. Joe is a talented student and we have greatly benefited from his leadership at USD," said Genevieve
Evans, the university's Greek advisor.
"I feel that I have promoted leadership among my peers," said Holt.
