USD women No. 2 seed in NCAA playoffs The No. 7 South Dakota women's basketball team was tapped as the No. 2 seed in the North Central Region and will participate in the NCAA Division II women's basketball national championships. It is the first time since the 1988-89 season that USD has participated in the national playoffs.
No. 1 seed South Dakota State was named the host of the tournament that will be held March 14, 15 and 17.
The Coyotes (25-4), who had a 10-game winning streak snapped by North Dakota (90-75) in the semifinals of the Wells Fargo Finals on Friday, March 7, retained its hold on the No. 2 spot in the region and will face #7 Concordia St-Paul (21-7).
In their last appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs, USD dropped a 72-71 decision to North Dakota State in overtime at Fargo in 1989-90. Overall, USD is 1-4 in NCAA Division II playoff games. The 1983-84 team won the North Central regional.

#1 SDSU (26-3) vs. #8 Regis (23-7).
#4 Minnesota-Duluth (25-4) vs. #5 North Dakota (25-5).
#3 Nebraska-Kearney (25-5) vs. #6 North Dakota State (25-6).
#2 South Dakota (25-4) vs. #7 Concordia St. Paul.
The winner advances to the Division II Elite Eight on March 26-29 at St. Joseph's, MO.
