Vermillion schools will administer Stanford10/Dakota STEP tests Vermillion public schools will be administering the Stanford10/Dakota STEP (South Dakota Test of Educational Progress) during the week of March 31-April 4. The school district will be assessing grades 2 through 8 and grade 11.
Grades 2, 4, 8 and 11 will also be assessed for school ability with the Otis-Lennon school ability test.
These assessments inform parents, students, the Vermillion School District and the state of South Dakota how groups and individuals are progressing educationally.
All students in grades 2 through 8 and 11 must be assessed as mandated by the "No Child Left Behind" federal law.
Students, parents, teachers, administrators and the South Dakota Department of Education and Cultural Affairs will receive the test results for analysis.
In preparation for the assessment tests, parents are urged to encouraged their children to get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, have two #2 lead pencils and an eraser, and bring a calculator for math assessment.
