Canton drops twice to VHS baseball team by Jim Prosser The Vermillion baseball team won both ends of two games April 14 in Canton as they faced the C-Hawks in a JV/varsity double header.
Being short handed in the roster (due to prior commitments), a skeleton JV crew, using a volunteer pitcher, won a lopsided 7-2, three-inning preliminary.
B.J. Campbell was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on one hit, four strikeouts, two walks and three hit batsmen. Canton's JV pitcher ran into a wild streak and was charged with seven runs, giving up two hits, seven walks,and a hit batter.
Leading the offense was Tim Bleil with one for one batting, scoring one, and two rbis. Brad Schaack was one for one, scored one and had one RBI. The remaining rbis were all scored by walks with bases loaded.
JV season record: 2-0-1.
The varsity game brought a victory over the C-Hawks as Danny Holoch pitched a five-inning gem, allowing only two hits in a shutout that included seven strikeouts.
The offense contributed 10 hits, and six passed balls plus four walks aided the cause, as 11 runners crossed the plate. The team was led by B.J. Campbell, who was on base four times and scored three runs and three rbis on three for four batting. Kyle Mollet scored three runs and had two rbis as he also was on base four times, going three for four. Holoch reached base four times scoring three runs. Ben Oberle went one for two with an RBI. and Tim Bleil scored one on one for three at bats.
