Fifth annual festival of the Arts at USD May 3 The University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts is hosting their annual Festival of the Arts on Saturday, May 3 at the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. The festival is a year end celebration of student and faculty work in art, music and theatre. It begins with a student art sale at 11 a.m. and concludes with a concert of turn-of-the-century American music featuring the symphonic band, under the direction of Dr. Lawrence Mitchell and The Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Matthew Harden.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Knutson Theatre and is free and open to the public. Throughout the day, festival goers can be entertained by outdoor and indoor concerts featuring string, saxophone, and trombone chamber groups, and a jazz combo. Scenes from opera workshop and theatre acting/directing classes perform in Colton Hall and the Arena Theatre respectively.
Outside the fine arts complex, the public can view student and faculty artwork, in pottery, sculpture, and prints, all of which is for sale. Additionally, the public is invited to a free hot dog barbecue to be held at 4 p.m.
