Square dancing festival is May 2-3 in Elk Point The South Dakota State Square, Folk and Round Dance Association is sponsoring the Spring State Square Dance Festival in Elk Point. This event will be held on May 2 and 3, and will be hosted by the Elk Point Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club.
The theme of the festival will be "Chase Right Along the Lewis and Clark Trail to Elk Point."
The activities will begin with a Trail In Dance on Friday evening, May 2. The caller will be Jerry Junck of Wayne, NE, and the round dance cuer will be Sharon and Darrell Beck of Sioux City, IA. The dance begins at 8 p.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m.
All sessions for the weekend will be held at the Elk Point-Jefferson High School.
On Saturday, May 3, the festival will begin at 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. The South Dakota Square Dance Association callers will do the calling. Don Schultz, Yankton, will be emcee for the afternoon. There will be business meetings before the 8 p.m. grand march.
Regular square dancing will follow the grand march. Elaine Peacock, Elk Point, will be the evening emcee. Don Schultz, Yankton, will be the round dance curer for both sessions. The public is invited to view some or all sessions.
In charge of the weekend activities are Dave and Elaine Roetman and Paul and Elaine Peacock. This will be the first time that Elk Point has hosted a square dance festival.
