Students perform in contest

Students perform in contest Thirty-eight Vermillion seventh- and eighth-graders participated in the South Dakota Bandmasters Association regional solo/ensemble contest on Saturday, April 5. The contest was held at Canton Junior/Senior High School, and participating students came from Lennox, Irene, Viborg, Beresford, Vermillion and Canton. Over 200 solo/ensemble events were judged by five area music educators.

Division I (Superior) Ratings were earned by: DeNell Dykstra, Kelly Miskimins, flute duet; Brad Nelson, Alex Anderson-Kahl, trombone duet; Ryan Husby, Jesse Kirkpatrick, Stuart Enos, Alex Anderson-Kahl, Luke Heine, bass quintet; Ryan Husby, Jesse Kirkpatrick, trumpet duet; Emily Renner, baritone solo; Dru Daniels, snare drum solo; Brittany Epping, timpani solo; Clare Bucklin, trumpet solo; Aaron Hanson, trumpet solo; Kristina Wagner, alto sax solo; Molly Hammond, tuba solo; Nick Rasmussen, tuba solo; Stacey Joy, Sarah Rasmussen, mallet duet; Molly Manning, Kristina Blythe, Ryan Gilbertson, Jordan Heesch, Molly Hammond, brass quintet; Ryan Powell, Kristina Wagner, Travis Miller, Lindsay Morecraft, saxophone quartet.

Division II (Excellent) Ratings were earned by: Bailey Gertsma, trumpet solo; Mikayla Herrick, Jessica Jurgensen, woodwind duet; Margaret Mueller, Rachel Odens, woodwind duet; Ashley Ruhaak, flute solo; Ashley Ruhaak, Tristin Upward, flute duet; Josephine Kabambi, bass clarinet solo; Molly Manning, Kristina Blythe, trumpet duet; Molly Hammond, trombone solo.
