VHS boys' team place fifth at Canton Relays by Jim Prosser The Tanager boys' track and field team placed fifth with 55 points at the 2003 Canton Relays last Tuesday, April 15. There were eight schools represented at the meet.
Field events results for Vermillion are: Shot put � third, Kellen Cusick, sixth, Jordan Anderson; high jump � third, Jared Hesla; discus � fifth, Anderson; triple jump � fifth, Jared Burcham.
BJ Campbell placed fourth in the 100M dash; Bart Miller was third in the 400M dash; and in the distance runs, Tyler Brown and Justin Manning were fourth and sixth in the 800M; and Manning placed 4th in the 1600M.
In the relays, the Tanagers' team of BJ Campbell, Jared Burcham, Jordan Anderson, and Tyler Brown placed third in the 4X100M; B. Miller, Campbell, Cusick, and Brown placed second in the 4X200M; placing sixth in the 4X800M relay was Dan Pearson, Mitch Bierle, Danny Shen, and John Miller.
The medley relay team of Burcham, Caleb Berry, Anderson and Bierle finished fourth.

Last Tuesday, April 15, the VHS girls track team joined seven other schools who participated in the Canton Relays.
In the field events, the Tanagers' Anne Carlson placed first in the long jump with a 15'11.5" leap, took second in the triple jump, and third in the high jump.
Joelle Mulder was sixth in shotput.
In the dashes, Nicki Nelson placed fifth in the 100M, and Michelle Rasmussen placed third in the 400M.
Morgan Brooks placed third in the 800M run, and Maddie Kroger was fifth in the 3200M run.
The 4X800M relay team of Morgan Brooks, Kayla Mollet, Katarina Gombocz, and Michelle Rasmussen placed third; and sixth place was claimed by the 4X200M relay team of Jena Gilkyson, Nicki Nelson, Heather Heine, and Brittney Gilkyson.
Placing fifth in the 4X100M was J. Gilkyson, Nelson, Heine, and Carlson.
The medley relay team of J. Gilkyson, Nelson, Katie Dehner, and Brooks also finished in fifth place and the Tanager girls' team total points was 52 for a fifth place in the meet.
