Wakonda Choral Department presents Cinderella by Bethany Parvin The greatest fairytale of all times was presented by the Wakonda High School Choral Department and its director, Sharyn Ostrem.
The community, friends, and family enjoyed WHS's version of Roger and Hammerstein's production of Cinderella.
The first dose of humor and talent was on Thursday, March 27 and the second on Friday. Junior Lindsay Nelson starred as Cinderella and sophomore Alex Nielsen as her prince. Other characters were King, Andrew Peterson; Queen, Jeannie Stockland; Fairy Godmother, Kayla Nielsen; Stepmother, Andrea Gregoire; stepsisters, Erin Spurrell and Emily Logue, and the Duke, John Donahue.
The Friday production boasted a dinner theater hosted by the Arts Booster Club. They served lasagna or seafood fettuccine, salad, bread sticks, and cheesecake. Many people enjoyed the chance to eat out and to see local talent on stage.
The audiences' favorite high points of the production were the humor relief of the step-sisters and their mother (Spurrell, Logue, and Gregoire); as well as the musical talent of Cinderella (Nelson) and the fairy godmother and the prince (Kayla and Alex Nielsen).
Costuming was excellent as Nelson wore her mother's wedding dress in the wedding scene, and the prince, Nielsen, wore a Marine uniform belonging to Andrew Peterson's father, Ray.
The cast was very appreciative of their director and teacher, Mrs. Sharyn Ostrem, as senior student Andrew Peterson read an original poem thanking her at Friday's event.
