Carlson, Rasmussen qualify for state meet by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' track team was outpointed by Madison and Lennox at the Big 8 conference meet May 15, but it had some major advances in most events.
The point totals were: Madison (88); Lennox (68); Vermillion(37). State qualifiers during the competition were: Annie Carlson in the long jump at 16' 3.5''; and Michelle Rasmussen, who won the 800M run in 2:23.1.
Other VHS scorers in field events were Carlson, who placed second in the high jump, and won the triple jump, 34-4.25); while Joelle Mulder was fourth in the shot put.
Lindsey Kenton placed second in the 100M hurdles and third in the 300M hurdles. Nicki Nelson placed third in the 100M dash.
Sarah Plate finished fourth in the 1600M run and Katarina Gombocz and Emily Renner went placed second and fourth in the 3200M.
In the relays, second place was scored by the 4X100M team of Carly Bernard, Nicki Nelson, Heather Heine, and Carlson. The 4x200M relay team of Bernard, Nelson, Heine and Brittney Gilkyson placed third.
The 4x400M relay team of Rasmussen, Gilkyson, Morgan Brooks, and Kenton came in third; and the medley relay team of Nelson, Heine, Gilkyson and Brooks placed second.
