Carlson, Rasmussen qualify for state track by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' track team placed seventh at the Region 4A Meet, held at Elk Point-Jefferson High School May 22, where they accumulated 62.5 points.
Annie Carlson placed third in the long jump with a leap of 16'1''; and second in the triple jump at 34'3.25."
She and Michelle Rasmussen, who was second in the 800M run with a time of 2:24.31, were the only Tanager girls to qualify for the state tournament.
Other VHS scorers in field events were: Carlson, fourth in high jump, and Jacque Smidt, eighth in the shot put.
Lindsey Kenton placed third in the 100M hurdles. Nicki Nelson place fifth in the 100M dash; Kayla Mollet was fifth in the 400M dash; Kati Dehner and Theresa Ring were sixth and seventh in the 1600M run; while Katarina Gombocz placed seventh in the 3200M.
In the relays, seventh place was scored in the 4X100M by J. Gilkyson, Nicki Nelson, Heine and Carlson; the 4X200M relay team of J. Gilkyson, Nelson, Heine and B. Gilkyson placed fourth.
The 4X400M relay squad of Rasmussen, B. Gilkyson, Brooks and Kenton came in fifth, and the medley relay team of Nelson, Heine, B. Gilkyson and Brooks finished sixth.
