Teens and young adults are killed at far higher rates in crashes because they are in a lethal intersection of inexperience, risk taking and low safety belt use. According to NHTSA, safety belts are estimated to reduce the risk of fatal injury by 45 percent and reduce the risk of serious injury by 50 percent.
