Lady Tanager golfers place 3rd in Mitchell by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' golf team, facing a 19-high school team tournament at Mitchell, on Friday April 25, came off with a third place among the 14 class 11AA schools and five class 11A teams competing.
Coach Kirk Hogen thought the competition was comparable to the Yankton invite on a difficult Lakeview Municipal Golf Course.
"We were able to score well enough as a complete team to beat some of the best teams in the state," he said.
The top four out of five scores gave Vermillion a score of 356 for 18 holes (last year the Tanager score on the same course was a 363).
Individual Tanager scores were: Allison Stewart 82 (fourth); Karrie Plate 84 (eighth); Jackie Thomas 92; Drew VanKley and Megan Deaver 98 each; and Ashley Bjorkman 101.
There were nearly 120 participants and the tournament team scores were: Brookings 349, RC Stevens 351, Vermillion 356; Mitchell 362, SF Lincoln 363, Watertown 367, Aberdeen Central 375, SF Roosevelt 380, SF Washington 381, Brandon Valley 382, Canton 392, Pierre 393, Sturgis 397, Lennox 405, Huron 407, Winner 414, Yankton 416, Todd County 429, and Madison 435.
