Merrigan a letterwinner for Morningside baseball Jay Merrigan, son of Sophie Merrigan of Vermillion, and James Merrigan of Vermillion, was a letterwinner for the Morningside College baseball team this season.
Merrigan, a junior at Morningside, is a 1999 graduate of Vermillion High School.
He collected 14 hits in 84 at-bats for a .167 batting average as the Mustangs' starting center fielder. Merrigan led the Mustangs with 21 base on balls. His statistics also included one double, one triple, one home run, 10 RBI's 18 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.
Merrigan's home run came in the Mustang's 11-1 victory against Mount Marty College on April 27. He also had a season's high three RBI's in the win against the Lancers. Merrigan also had two RBIs to go along with a season's high two hits and two runs scored when Morningside defeated Mount Marty 13-10 on March 26.
Morningside, which completed its first season of competition as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), will join the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) starting with the 2004 season.
