Rasmussen, Patel receive VHS student honors Michelle Rasmussen and Anish Patel were selected as the Vermillion High School Students of the Month for April. These seniors will receive a $100 scholarship from First National Bank-Vermillion in recognition of their academic and extra-curricular efforts.
Rasmussen is a "hard-worker with a great attitude" according to her faculty nomination. Her honors include Girls State delegate, National Honor Society, Freshman Scholarship Award, and All-State in both soccer and cross country. She also is a three-time piano Gold Cup winner.
She has a 4.0 G.P.A. and plans to attend the University of Kansas majoring in exercise science. Her parents are Randy and Ann Rasmussen.
Patel is undecided on his college choice, but intends to study in the field of medicine. He has a 3.7 G.P.A. and his parents are Rikesh and Yesmina Patel.
His varied list of activities and honors include debate, cross country, chorus, Boys State, National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, tennis, math club, and Natural Helpers. He also volunteers at the Sioux Valley Care Center.
The VHS Student of the Month program, sponsored by First National Bank, has concluded its sixth year. This 2002-2003 year had 20 faculty members participate in the nomination process and there were a record number of student nominations as a result.

Other students receiving nominations over the course of the year were Katie Connors, Brittany Sand, Catherine Odson, Katie McDonald, Kristen Malek-Madani, Laura Taggart, Bobi Hines, Dan Holoch, Jimmy Taylor, Jeff Brevik, Andrew Ofstehage, Drew Lawrence, Joel Anderson, Jon Brooks, and Fei Wen.
