Tanager golfers capture conference crown May 2 by Jim Prosser The Tanager girls' golf team won the Big Eight Conference tournament last Friday, May 2 against Lennox and Madison for their annual competition.
The play took place at the Lenkota Golf Course.
The VHS girls placed first with 326, while Madison took second with 399 and Lennox was third at 406 for the varsity phase of the tournament.
Capturing medalist honors was the Tanagers' Allison Stewart. She had a course record 69 for ladies in the 18-hole match.
Other Tanager scoring results were: Karrie Plate � 81, Jackie Thomas � 86, Ashley Bjorkman � 90, and Dru Van-kley � 95.
Every member of the team is eligible for the conference championship medal.
The JV tournament matches involved only two teams since Madison fielded an incomplete entry. Vermillion swept the match 402-460 over Lennox.
VHS JV scoring and individual places were: Megan Deaver � 90 (medalist), Anna Isaacson � 102 (second), Chelsea Gauer � 105 (third), Tristen Upward � 106 (fourth), and Sara Mayer � 138 (ninth).
Coach Kirk Hogen was happy to have the win but still looks for improvement in course management as they plan for the next competition at the Brookings invitational.
