Vermillion girls score close finishes in dual by Jim Prosser On Monday, May 12, the seventh- and eighth-grade girls' track teams scored close finishes in a dual meet with Akron/Westfield held at the VHS track.
Team scores were (seventh grade) V-49, A/W-57 and (eighth grade) V-60, A/W-48.
The placers for the eighth-grade girls were: shot put � Breann Lueders, first, 24'1/2", and Ashley Ruhaak, second; discus � Ruhaak, third; long jump � Ariel Hofman, first, 13'1"; high jump � Annie Roche, second. In the 100M hurdles � Kinsey Weydert and Annika Sjolie placed first and second. The winning time was 19 seconds.
In the dashes: 100M � Roche, first, 14.1; Josie Kabambi, second; Kristina Blythe, fourth; and Bethany Sand, fifth; 200M � Josephine Kabambi, first, 30.4, and Kinsey Weydert, third; 400M � Sarah Rasmussen, first, 1:12.2.
Distance runs: 800M � Rasmussen, first, 2:51.5; 1600M � Katarina Gombocz, second.
The 4X200 relay team of Roche, Kabambi, Weydert and Hofman placed first.
First place also went to the 4X100 relay team of Roche, Weydert, Kabambi, and Hofman; Vermillion's medley relay team of Margaret Mueller, Rachel Odens, Sarah Bye, and Stacy Bottolfson placed second.
The seventh-graders had placers in: shot put � Shalita Bartlett, second; Kayla Anglin, third; discus � Bartlett, second; long jump � Kelly Miskimins, first, 11'4.5"; Dykstra, third.
In the 100M hurdles � Rachel Odens, first, :17.6.
In the 100M dash � Alicia Brown, first, 13.8, Miskimins, fourth; Alexa Walker, fifth; and Brittany Bye, sixth; 200M � Walker, second; 400M � Odens, first, 1:14.7; S. Bottolfson, second.
Long distance runs: 800M � Sasheen Thin Elk, third; 1600M run � Emily Renner, first, 6:22.7; Erin Rasmussen, third; Thin Elk, fourth.
Brown, Miskimins, Walker and Bye placed first in both the 4x100M and 4x200M relays.
