Vermillion students attend convention Vermillion High and Middle School students attended the 16th annual state convention of the South Dakota Student Council Association (SDSCA) held in Pierre, on March 23-35. Over 450 students and advisors from more than 45 high schools across the state attended the convention.
The SDSCA, which offers training in leadership skills, aims to help high school and middle school students become lifelong leaders.
"Our student council members are hard working and dedicated to providing leadership and service to our school and community," said Vikki Fix, VHS Student Council advisor.
VHS students donated $700 and VMS students raised $450 to donate to the Children's Miracle Network. Over $12,000 was donated this year by South Dakota student councils.
VHS junior Geng Wang was elected to the SDSCA Executive Board and will serve as state secretary during the 2003-04 school year.
"I can't believe I won. This is an awesome opportunity to get involved and represent our school community," said Wang.
"The state convention was amazing," said Varsha Ramakrishnan, secretary of the VHS Student Council Executive Board. "It is really beneficial for VHS students to interact with students from other schools."
VHS Student Council is a charter member of SDSCA and has earned the distinction of being named Outstanding Student Council since 1999.
