VHS boys track places 4th at region by Jim Prosser The Tanager boys' track team took fourth place behind Lennox – 179, Canton – 119, and Beresford – 109, scoring 89 points in the Region 4A track meet May 22.
State qualifiers were determined by the first two places in every event. Also, any member who met the state standard in any event during the entire track season is qualified.
Field events results for Vermillion were: shot put – Kellen Cusick, fifth; discus � Brad Simons and Jordan Anderson, fifth and seventh; high jump � Jerad Hesla, second (6'1"); triple jump � Jared Burcham, fourth.
BJ Campbell placed fifth in the 200M dash, while Caleb Berry was eighth in the 400M dash.
In the 800M and 1600M runs, Justin Manning placed second in both races; AJ Manning was eighth in the 3200M.
All five relay teams qualified for state, either previously or at this meet. The 4X100M team of Campbell, B. Miller, Burcham, and Ben Oberle had a third place finish. The 4X200M relay team of Campbell, Miller, Cusick, and Oberle placed first.
The 4X400M relay squad of Cusick, Miller, Tyler Brown and Oberle placed third.
The 4X800M relay team of Miller, Craig Powell, J. Manning and Brown qualified for state with a first place finish. Second place was claimed in the medley relay by the team of Campbell, Cusick, Oberle and Brown.
Individual qualifiers for the state tournament are Hesla and Justin Manning. Participants on qualified relay teams are Brown, Burcham, Campbell, Cusick, Manning, Bart Miller, Oberle and Powell.
