Wakonda will hold Memorial Day service Wakonda's Gingrich-Dixon Post 13 American Legion will hold its annual tour of the cemeteries beginning at the North Catholic Cemetery at 9 a.m. May 26 and ending at Union Cemetery at 11 a.m.
The time and place of observances are: 9 a.m., North Catholic; 9:30 a.m., Pleasant Valley; 9:45 a.m., Bethel Baptist; 10 a.m., South Lodi; 10:30�a.m., South Catholic; 11 a.m., Union.
A Memorial Day program will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Veteran's Memorial site. In case of bad weather, it will be moved to the new gym at Wakonda School.
The program will include the posting of the colors by the color guard, the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Kayla Nielsen, the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Commander John Haver, the invocation by Post Chaplain Don Lyso, and a reading by Emma Jensen.
The speaker will be Paul Jensen, vice commander of the South Dakota American Legion.
Following the benediction, a rifle salute and the playing of Taps, a dinner will be served at the Legion Hall.
