Wedel sets stadium record May 22 South Dakota senior Molly Wedel set a stadium record in winning a national title in the women's 10,000-meter run May 22 at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Edwardsville, IL.

Wedel, becomes the 13th national champion in the history of track and field at USD. She is the eighth female national titlist (total of nine titles).

A senior from Spencer, Iowa, Wedel clocked a time of 35:22.22 and broke the Ralph Korte Stadium record of 35:22.93 (Kasia Arient, 1997).

South Dakota distance coach Rob Kinnunen said Wedel is one of those rare athletes that has unbelieveable toughness.

"I think it is a combination of excitement and relief," Kinnunen said of Wedel's performance. "For her to finish off her college championship with a national title is something she has always dreamed of doing."
