WHS track team participates in Brandon Valley meet by Ashley Steffen A glorious day welcomed the Wakonda track team to the Brandon Valley Invitational on Saturday, April 26.
Team standings at the end of the meet were Parker 99, Chester 91, SFC 84, Garretson 54, and Baltic 52, with Wakonda coming in with 23 points and placing 11th.
Injuries continue to plague the WHS track team. State qualifier Lindsay Knudson has had problems with a tight hamstring; senior Andrea Gregoire has a strained quad; junior Kim Henriksen is struggling with a possible stress fracture in her ankle; freshman Tiffany Ganschow pulled a muscle in her shoulder; and junior Nick Skonhovd is having trouble with his hamstring as well. But the team trudges through.
Placers from Wakonda were: Lindsay Knudson in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.25 placing fourth. Knudson also placed sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 14.21. In the girls' 400m dash, Andrea Gregoire placed second with a time of 1:04.09. She also placed in the 200m dash, crossing the line with a time of 28.53 and getting third. Nikki Johnston placed third in high jump with a jump of 4'8".
For the boys' events, in the 3200 relay Eric Skonhovd, Tyler Moser, Evan Peterson, and Robert Gregoire ran a time of 9:10, placing fourth. In the 1600m run, Eric Skonhovd ran a 5:03 for fourth place and Robert Gregoire ran a 4:52.92 for second place in the same race. In the 400m dash, John Linblom ended with a time of 57.43 and placed eighth. In the 800m run, Moser ran a time of 2:22.8 and placed eighth. In the 3200m run Eric Skonhovd ran a third place time of 11:22.65 and Gregoire ran a 10:51.7 to win the 3200m run.
