Bids accepted for Pearl Harbor flag Bids will be accepted through July 31 on an American flag that flew over the Pearl Harbor Memorial in 2002. Darrel Christopherson, a Pearl Harbor survivor and recipient of the flag, said write-in bids are being sought.
The funds raised from the sale of the 18-foot by 8-foot banner will be used for maintenance of the Clay County Veterans Memorial located on the grounds of the Clay County Courthouse.
Christopherson was assigned to the USS Vestal, which was moored to the USS Arizona when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.
Mail bids to Clay County Veterans Service Officer Ray Hofman, Suite 203, Clay County Courthouse, Vermillion,SD 57069. The memorial committee reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
