Gunderson will serve flavors of the Lewis & Clark journey Members and guests of the Sgt. Floyd Tri-State Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation, Inc. will take their places at the table of the Lewis and Clark Expedition as the special guests of Mary Gunderson, author of The Food Journal of Lewis and Clark: Recipes for an Expedition.
This will be the main course at the chapter's upcoming meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 22, at the Lewis & Clark Visitors Center operated by the Corp of Engineers on the bluff overlooking Gavins Point Dam, on the Nebraska side near Yankton.
Gunderson, a nationally-noted food writer and culinary historian, and a native of Yankton, will serve up the spirit and flavors of the Lewis & Clark journey from her book, The Food Journal, (courtesy of History Cooks'¨). Along with recipes for foods eaten on the Lewis & Clark trail, she'll bring answers to questions like: How did they transport their food and gear? What foods did they like best (and least)? How did they celebrate holidays or birthdays?
In addition to speaking to the local chapter, Gunderson has her own "full plate" of speaking engagements throughout the rest of the year, including stops in Pennsylvania, Oregon, Kentucky and Indiana to name a few.
