Lawrensen honored on 80th birthday A birthday dinner honored Anna Lawrensen on her 80th birthday, which is June 3, at the Silver Dollar in Vermillion Saturday evening.
The dinner was hosted by her children who came from four states. Following the dinner, Anna's cousins joined the group as a surprise.
Brenda Miller, her daughter, read a tribute she had written to her mother, beginning with her mothers birth in Sweden and coming with her parents, Oscar and Agnes Messler, on a boat to America as a 1-year-old baby. The tribute told of her social life, her graduation from Beresford High School, her marriage to Elvin W. Lawrensen in 1942, the births of their children and Elvin's death in 1986, the years of travelling while in the service and the farm life later in Clay County.
The party included daughter Carol Nison, Christy, Michael, David and John, all of the Minneapolis area; daughter Sandra Lawrensen of San Diego, CA; daughter Brenda Miller of Hyattsville, MA; son Barry and Elaine Lawrensen, Elizabeth Stephan and Selah of Orange City, IA; Glen and Paula Lawrensen, Herb and Leone Christopherson, Louise Eklund and Mary Hanson all of Vermillion; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bakker of Rock Valley, IA; Dr. Ruth Bakker of Canton; Ernie Prentice of Omaha; Mildred Carson and Mark Carlson of the Minneapolis area; Harold Johnson of the Minneapolis area; Ralph and Pat Messler, and Avis Messler all of Beresford.
Cameras were flashing all evening and there were "gobs" of visiting. Birthday card greetings, flowers and a decorated birthday cake and ice cream made the evening one to remember.
