Papillion wins championship of Lewis & Clark Classic by Jim Prosser The results of the final day of competition in the Lewis & Clark Classic matched the corresponding places as the divisions crossed and played each in the third, fourth and fifth places at the Riverside Park in Yankton.
The fifth place game was won by SSC over Spearfish, 11-5; fourth place went to Lennox which outscored Valley Springs 6-3. Third place victor Yankton played a perfect 9-0 gem over Parkston.
In Vermillion's Prentis Park, the first seed in the Clark division faced the second seed in the Lewis division in a semi final. Then the other first and second place teams were paired for the second semi, with the winners to play in the championship.
The first semi game had Norfolk defeating Omaha Bryan 7-0; and the second was a loss for Post #1 which played an exceptional game against Papillion Post #32 but came up on the short end of a 4-0 score.
While both teams were excellent on defense, Post #32's Kevin Dooley held Vermillion scoreless by giving up only four hits, registering eight Ks and hitting a batter. Dan Holoch also pitched a fine game giving up five walks, recording two Ks and one hit batter in his seven hitter. Kevin Bleil and Andy Ofstehage each had two hits.

To complete the results of the L & C Classic, the championship was won by Papillion with a 5-0 final against Norfolk.
