Softball season opens; game results are noted by Jim Prosser The Dakota Fastpitch/Modified League involves girls' softball teams from the following communities: Canton, Centerville, Dakota Valley, Elk Point, Gayville, Irene, Vermillion, Viborg, Volin, Wakonda, and Yankton.
There are 18U, 16U, 14U, and 12U divisions in the league. The games are played under the auspices of the Parks and Recreation offices with area businesses acting as sponsors.
The season opened on Tuesday, June 3, and games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday through July 17 (except for July 3).
Games on June 3
16U � Community 1st Bank won 12-6 and 11-10 over EPJ-2.
14U � Vermillion Beauty Shop split with Yankton Angels 20-4 and 4-6.
First Dakota National Bank split with Centerville 8-1 and 8-14.
12U � CorTrust defeated EPJ twice 9-4 and 12-11.
Houska Dental lost to Yankton Fury twice 6-13 and 7-17.
Games on June 5
18U � Dairy Queen split with Dakota Valley 4-6 and 7-3.
16U � Community First tied with Gayville 8-8 (rained out).
14U � Vermillion Beauty Shop lost twice to Canton Heat 2-15 and 0-11.
First Dakota defeated EPJ 11-10.
12U � Cortrust beat and tied Irene 14-2 and 6-6 (rain).
Houska Dental defeated EPJ twice 10-9 and 14-10.
