Wakonda Little League places second in Alcester Wakonda Little League played Lennox for the first round action of the Alcester tournament. Wakonda won 9-5. The leading scorers for Wakonda were Brian Steffen with a home run, Josh Wagner with a double, Matt Tjeerdsma with two doubles and Daniel Sokolowski and Justin Polley each with two singles.
Wagner picked up the win. Wakonda then played Canton II. Wakonda won 14-1. The leading hitters for Wakonda were Andrew Ganschow with a triple and Matt Brue with a double. Wagner and Steffen each had two singles. Tjeerdsma, Sokolowski and Polley each had a single. Steffen picked up the win with 10 strike outs.
Wakonda played Canton I and lost 4-3. The leading hitters for Wakonda were Wagner with a triple and single. Ganschow, Jesse Gullikson and Steffen each had singles. Wagner was the losing pitcher.
Wakonda then played Centerville. Wakonda won 9-8. Steffen and Wagner picked up the win. The leading hitters for Wakonda were Steffen with a home run and Ganschow with a triple and two singles. Wagner had three singles, Polley hit a double and a single and Brue had a double. Sokolowski and Tjeerdsma each had a single.
Wakonda met up with Canton I for the championship game. Canton I won 16-3. The leading hitters for Wakonda were Ganschow with a triple and single. Wagner and Tjeerdsma each had a single.
Each player received a trophy. Wakonda coaches thank the parents and fans for all their support.
