4-H Special Foods contest held Three local members participated in the Clay County 4-H Special Foods contest held Saturday, June 14 at Yankton High School.
Participants had 1 1/2 hours to prepare a dish of their choice, coordinate a table setting and meal menu. In addition, participants were tested on their knowledge of nutrition, food and safety and food preparation.
A purple ribbon was awarded to Kelsy Fallan in the Beginner Division for preparing her Strawberry Banana Soy Smoothie recipe. In their Junior Division, Ashley Ouellette received a purple for her Porcupine Meatball recipe and Theresa Ring, Senior Division, received a purple for her dish, Chicken Quesadillas.
Purple ribbon winners are now eligible to advance to the state competition at the 2003 South Dakota State Fair on July 28 and 29.
The judges for the Youth-in-Action event were Jill Metheny and Dawn Stoner, both of Yankton.
