4-H'ers participate in public speaking contests The Clay County 4-H Illustrated Talk and Public Speaking Contest was held Thursday, June 26 at the 4-H Center in Vermillion. Five members from Clay and Union counties participated in the contest.
Four-H members receiving purple ribbons for Public Speaking were Emily Miller, "I Am An American," and Lydia Gille, "How Youth and Adults Benefit from 4-H." A blue ribbon was awarded to Ellen Kennedy for her Public Speaking presentation, "4-H ? Keep Our Kids in South Dakota."
Purple ribbon Illustrated Talk presentations were presented by Kelsey Fallan on "Are You Choking?", Emily Miller with "Dying to be Thinner," and Emily Holoch on "First, Second, Thirds."
Purple ribbon winners will advance to the South Dakota State Fair competition in Huron July 28 through Aug. 2.
Sharon Guthmiller, Extension educator/FCS from Yankton County served as judge for the contest.
