Clay County Fair kicks off Thursday Livestock shows, music, food planned July 17-19 As traditional as baseball and apple pie, the Clay County Fair and Achievement Days will bring a variety of activities to Vermillion July 17-19.
From livestock shows to a fashion revue, the fair's schedule of events offers variety for everyone participating.
Entertainment is also on tap each evening, and no one will go hungry as volunteers in the food booth serve food and beverages every day.
Open class and 4-H project entries began arriving at the Clay County Fairgrounds Tuesday and Wednesday.
Livestock entries from 4-H'ers were scheduled to arrive at the fairgrounds Thursday evening.
A 4-H and open class bake sale was also held 6 p.m. Thursday at the 4-H Center Thursday, along with with an open class horse show.
The schedule of events for the 2003 Clay County Fair and Achievement Days follows:
Friday, July 18
Swine Show, 7:30 a.m.; Rabbit Show, 9 a.m.; Poultry Show, 11 a.m.; Enter Open Class Table Setting Contest, noon to 1 p.m.; Fashion Revue practice, 2 p.m.; 4-H Goat Show, 3 p.m.; 4-H Sheep Show, 4:30 p.m.
Friday evening events include music by A4J from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the annual demolition derby at 7:30 p.m. Buildings close at 10 p.m.
Saturday, July 19
Beef Show, 8:30 a.m.; Open class fruit pie and cookie contest, noon to 1 p.m.; 4-H Round Robin Showmanship, 4 p.m.; Community barbecue, 6 to 7 p.m.; Fashion Revue, 6:30 p.m.; Picture of open class winners, 7 p.m.; Youth Talent Show, 7 p.m.; Pie, cookie and cake auction, 8 p.m.; Music by Borderline, 8:30 p.m.; Ice cream social, 9 p.m.; Buildings close, 10 p.m.
