FNB/V team scores two wins in Babe Ruth action by Jim Prosser FNB/V scored two wins in Vermillion/Yankton Babe Ruth League action last week as Yankton pitchers from two different teams gave up an astounding 48 total walks in a couple runaway games for FNB.
Game one was played on June 30 in Vermillion at Prentis Park versus Prairie Wave which was a 20-9 romp for the home team. FNB scored five runs in each inning, collecting nine hits and 21 walks from Yankton pitchers.
Jordan Merrigan started and was the winning pitcher giving up eight runs on six hits and six walks in three innings. Jordan Boots went two innings being charged with one run, one hit, three BBs and registering two Ks (the same as Merrigan's).
Nick Rasmussen led the offense with three singles. Six other batters collected hits.
Game two paired FNB/V against the Yankton Dodgers in Yankton on July 1.
Dodger pitchers were charged with 27 bases on balls. FNB � 18 runs, 3 hits, 3 errors; Dodgers � 6 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors.
Pitchers for FNB were: Mikal Ustad (the winner) � two innings, three runs, two hits, six BB's, one K; Jess Kirkpatrick � two innings, three runs, one hit, five BBs; Alex Schaack � one inning, no runs, no hits, two BBs, three Ks. Hitting leaders for FNB were: Matt Stange � two singles, and Pat Gregg � one hit.
