Legion baseball opens Region 3B play by Jim Prosser Vermillion Post #1 had an easy time of it as they opened the Region 3B tournament with wins over Harrisburg 11-1 at Lennox on Saturday, July 19; and a 14-2 win over Dakota Valley on Sunday, July 20.
Other first day scoring results were: Alcester � 10, Beresford � 5; and Lennox � 4, Elk Point ��3.
Danny Holoch was the winning pitcher for Post #1 as he held Harrisburg to one run on five hits while recording three Ks and a hit batsman. He was backed up by a near perfect defense (one error) and super offense (11 runs, 10 hits, nine RBIs).
Offensively things were again evenly distributed. B.J. Campbell went two for four with one RBI; Kevin Bleil, two for three, one run, one RBI; Kyle Mollet, two for three, two runs, one RBI; Eric Rickord, one for three, two runs, one RBI; Ben Oberle went three for three, scored one and had three RBIs; Andy Ofstehage scored two runs; Jared Burcham was on base twice and scored twice.
Vermillion's season record improved to 15-18 going into the Sunday game against Dakota Valley.
On Sunday's game, Kevin Bleil started and went 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five Ks. Jason Donald came in after two walks put men on base. He gave up a single but a fly ball out and a K snuffed out the attempt the ended the short five-inning game.
The Post #1 team had three players score three runs each � Danny Holoch, Eric Rickord and Drew Lawrence. Rickord also had two RBIs and Lawrence had an RBI. Bleil aided his cause with one for two batting with two runs scored and one RBI. Ben Oberle was one for two with one run and two RBIs. B.J. Campbell went one for two with two RBIs. Jared Burcham scored once and was credited with two RBIs. Andy Ofstehage drove in runs on a sac fly and a fielder's choice.
In other games played Sunday, Harrisburg eliminated Beresford from the tourney 13-3 and Lennox defeated Alcester 11-9. The Post #1 team's record is now 16-18.
