Post #1 splits triangular at Prentis Park July 15 by Jim Prosser The triangular baseball event had Sioux City North Stars and Irene Legion Post #193 joining Vermillion Post #1 as each team played the other two at Prentis Park on Tuesday, July 15.
The North High School Stars beat both their adversaries Irene, 10-0; and Vermillion, 15-0. Line score for the Post #1 game: Stars 15 runs, 8 hits, 0 err, 8 LOB; Vermillion 0 runs, 3 hits, 9 error, 5 lob.
After the error-plagued fiasco against the North Stars, Post #1 hoped to change the atmosphere and maybe play a nice easy seven-inning game. Not to be!
Danny Holoch and Kyle Mollet combined for a four-hit, 10-K effort, but the team still made errors (six of them) to create a tight 10-8 tough win. The stats for the pitchers were almost identical (four runs, two ER, three BBs, five Ks each) with Holoch giving up three of the hits and being credited with the win.
Line score: Irene 8 runs, 4 hits, 2 errors, 10 LOB; Vermillion 10 runs, 8 hits, 6 errors, 6 LOB.
Offensively things were fairly evenly distributed: B.J. Campbell went two for three with two runs and three RBIs; Drew Lawrence was one for two, two runs, one rbi; Kevin Bleil, one for three one run, one rbi; Mollet, one for three, one run, one rbi; Holoch, one for three, one rbi; Eric Rickord, one for four, one run, one rbi; Andy Ofstehage, one for four, one run; Jared Burcham, on base twice, scored twice.
Vermillion's season record is 14-18.
