After the collision, the motorcycle rested on its side against the bridge before starting on fire.
The two men were the only persons with either vehicle, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol. However, both the pickup and the motorcycle were followed by other vehicles. A semi driver who was following Korslund used his fire extinguisher to put out the motorcycle's flames.
The accident site was shut down for about 90 minutes and traffic was detoured.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office was notified of the accident at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday.
Units from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the Vermillion Police Department, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Vermillion/Clay County Fire, Ambulance and Rescue responded to the scene.
Alcohol, excessive speed and weather conditions were apparently not factors in the accident, according to the Highway Patrol.
