Vermillion team wins third in Babe Ruth tourney by Jim Prosser First National Bank went 3-2 in the June 27-29 Yankton Babe Ruth Tournament.
Westfield, IA was champion and Vermillion P & R came in second.
Game one pitted Hartington, NE against FNB and was highlighted by a combined no-run, two-hit pitching gem. Alex Schaack started and faced 13 batters with only one base runner (a strikeout victim who made first base on a passed ball).
He registered 10 Ks with no BBs in four innings. Jordan Boots went two innings giving up two hits and one BB along with two Ks.
Final line score: FNB � 8 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Hartington � 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors.
Hitting leader for FNB was Jeff Donnelly with two singles. Luke Heine, Jess Kirkpatrick, Gabe Verbeski, Pat Gregg, Boots, and Schaack each claimed a single.
Game two on Saturday, June 28 Yankton Prairie Wave scored a 3-2 victory over FNB. Vermillion couldn't produce the key hit as runners were stranded on third in three different innings.
Starter Jordan Boots was charged with three runs on eight hits with one error. Jeff Donnelly and Alex Schaack each went one inning with no further damage. Luke Heine, Donnelly, and Schaack each recorded a single.
In game three the Yankton Dodgers fell to the FNB batters (four of eight BBs scored runs) in spite of only three hits � two by Pat Gregg and one by Luke Heine. Jordan Merrigan gave up one run on two hits, one K and four BBs in three innings.
Alex Schaack registered six Ks, three BBs with one hit in his three-inning assignment.
In game four on Sunday, June 29 against Westfield, Vermillion's three-run lead was erased by a big five-run fourth inning carrying them to the championship game.

Jordan Boots took the loss giving up five runs on five hits and five BBs in a four-inning stint. Jeff Donnelly went one inning and was charged with two runs, two hits, and two BBs.
The three hits for FNB came from Jordan Boots, Alex Schaack, and Luke Heine.
The consolation match on Sunday was a return game with Yankton Prairie Wave losing a close 10-8 contest to FNB. Eight runs in the first two innings were enough to hold off the opposition. Bases on balls were a part of the success as only four hits were collected by Vermillion.

Jess Kirkpatrick was the winning pitcher surrendering six runs on five hits and three BBs with one K during his three-inning performance. Alex Schaack earned a save with three innings of relief including six Ks, two hits, and two walks resulting in two runs.
Mikal Ustad had a double and Gabe Verbeski, Pat Gregg, plus Schaack each singled.
Including the tournament games, FNB's record is seven wins, three losses.
