Brettell was a leading man, mentor by David Lias Benjamin Brettell of Arlington, TX was described as a leading man, a mentor for younger actors and a dependable prom date for those without one.
Those were just some of the memories of the 17-year-old that came to mind, according to a news story in the Arlington Star-Telegram.
The story was published shortly after his friends and teachers gathered outside the doors of the Creative Arts Theater & School in Arlington last week and lit candles for Brettell.
He died Aug. 12 in a rollover accident on Highway 19 north of Vermillion. The accident also claimed the life of Matthew Hollingsworth of Vermillion. Lori Turner of Arlington was critically injured in the crash. Emily Pier, Vermillion, also was hurt. She was able to walk to a nearby residence for help.
Pier is recovering from non-life threatening injuries in Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Brettell traveled to Vermillion earlier this month with his mother to visit his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Young Moore III. Turner, a close friend, accompanied him from Texas to Vermillion.
Brettell participated in 22 shows at Creative Arts Theater & School over about eight years and acted in most of them.
