Clay County 4-H members recognized The Clay County 4-H Leaders Association recognizes Shelli Knutson, a member of the Coyote Cubs 4-H Club, for contributing 100 or more volunteer hours of community service during the past year. She was one of 469 youth from South Dakota that completed the Power of Youth Campaign challenge.
Many 4-H members in Clay County volunteer year round. This year all 4-H members who met their pledged hours were formally recognized with a certificate and those members who volunteered 100 hours or more were also awarded a 4-H medal funded through the S.D. 4-H Foundation. Clay County 4-H members receiving certificates were Kelsey Fallen, Emily Renner, Annie Carlson, Julie Renner, Tony Hubert, Casey Carlson, Kate Renner and Kyle Hubert.
The 4-H Community Service value to Clay County was $2,570. This was part of a state-wide 4-H volunteer contribution of 258,780 hours valued at $1,332,717. Some of the community service projects performed by Clay County 4-H members were visiting residents in nursing homes, cleaning road ditches, putting together "I Care" kits, serving free meals, cleaning the fairgrounds and planting flowers.
