Local student receives Sioux Valley scholarship Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System recently awarded $1,000 academic scholarships to 100 dependent children of Sioux Valley employees throughout the healthcare system.
The Heart of Tomorrow Scholarship Program is for children of employees who are pursuing a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited post-secondary institution.
Heather Swensen, Vermillion, was one of the award recipients. Swensen is the daughter of Tim Hannahs, director of plant operations at Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center.
Swensen graduated from Vermillion High School in 2003. She plans to attend The University of South Dakota to pursue a degree in nursing.
As an investment in future leaders, the Heart of Tomorrow Scholarship Program is very competitive and awards students who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. Some scholarships were given based on special circumstances or expressed financial need. Students may reapply for the award each year as long as they continue to meet the criteria set forth by the scholarship program.
