Pioneer Memorial announces renovation drive

Pioneer Memorial announces renovation drive Pioneer Memorial Hospital & Health Services announces a $200,000 fund-raising campaign to renovate and refurbish Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg.

According to Georgia Pokorney, CEO, the money will be used to install new windows, hallway handrails, flooring and bathroom fixtures throughout, as well as refurbish resident rooms, and other areas of the nursing home facility.

Pioneer Memorial's Nursing Home opened in 1970 with eight residents. A 12-bed addition was completed in 1977; and in 1998, a new addition was built to accommodate eight nursing home beds for a specialized Alzheimer's/Dementia unit. Other than some minimal remodeling in 1999, very little refurbishing of the home has occurred.

"There are over 50 direct care givers and support staff who serve the residents in Pioneer Memorial's Nursing Home, and our facility averages a 96 percent occupancy or more," Pokorney said. "We believe strongly that the time has come to address capital improvements in our nursing home to insure our long term investment, to accommodate the comfort of our residents and employees alike, and to continue to provide quality care and service."

She added, "Pioneer Memorial has a proud history, and is a unique facility because it includes a hospital, 24-hour emergency services, medical clinic, dental care, nursing home with an Alzheimer's/Dementia unit, assisted living apartments, and independent living complex, all under one roof, allowing us to provide a full continuum of care."

In addition to the nursing home renovation, Pioneer Memorial has also identified a new lab/x-ray information system, and surgical suite area improvements as priorities in their fund-raising campaign.

According to Pokorney, "The information system will increase communication and diagnostic efficiencies and thereby enhance the quality of care, as will our continuing efforts to provide the most up-to-date equipment for our surgical suite area."
