SE Research Farm fall tour is Sept. 5 The Southeast Research Farm Fall Tour is set for Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
From Beresford, the research farm is located 6 miles west and 3 miles south at 29974 University Road.
Farm manager Bob Berg said a weed tour will feature South Dakota State University Extension Weed Specialist Leon Wrage and SDSU Extension Integrated Pest Management Coordinator Darrell Deneke.
They will offer tips on dealing with lambsquarter and waterhemp in corn and soybeans, cocklebur control, and herbicide timing for yield. Producers also will be able to see unique herbicide demonstration comparisons.
A soil fertility tour features SDSU Extension Soils Specialist Jim Gerwing. He will focus on preventing and correcting soil salinity problems.
An insect and disease tour features SDSU Extension Entomologist Mike Catangui discussing bean leaf beetle and soybean aphid. SDSU plant science professor Marie Langham and graduate student Connie Cihlar deal with bean pod mottle virus.
SDSU Extension Plant Pathologist Marty Draper discusses soybean cyst nematode.
A crop tour features a deep-tillage demonstration with SDSU Extension Precision Farming Specialist Gregg Carlson and graduate student Bill
Tjentland discussing their work. Berg will discuss soybean row spacing.
