Wakonda community news Yard of Month selected

The Yard of the Month award for August in Wakonda goes to Don and Maxine Chaussee. Their home is located at 106 Dakota.

The selection process is always difficult as there are a number of excellent yards to choose from.

Since 1997 when the Community Club began this recognition process, over 40 yards have been selected with some number of those yards receiving the award more than once.

Community Club news

The Community Club membership is grateful to all of the contributors to the aluminum can recycling endeavor. The receptacle on the southeast side of the Senior Citizens building is working out nicely as a place to receive cans. It is accessible from the alley as well as the sidewalk.

Hopefully, now that the receptacle for receiving the cans has been made into a permanent installation, everyone will get used to using it.

All proceeds from can sales will be used for town or school projects or promotion.

Wallet athletic schedules

The athletic schedules for all school sports are again available courtesy of the Community Club in cooperation with the school athletic department.

The wallet-sized schedules may be picked up at the First Premier Bank, and several other business places. They are available as of this writing.

Cornstock in the Park

Remember Cornstock in the Park Saturday, Aug. 9. The Community Club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 3, and the Tailgate Supper held the same evening as Wakonda's first home football game will be Friday, Sept. 5.
