Wakonda native appointed circuit judge Gov. Mike Rounds has appointed Steven Ray Jensen of Dakota Dunes to the First Circuit Court Judgeship.
"Mr. Jensen has distinguished himself as a very good attorney and will do a good job for the citizens of the First Judicial District," said rounds.
Jensen completed his clerkship in the South Dakota Supreme Court under Justice Sabers from 1988 to 1989, and is a partner in the Crary, Huff, Inkster, Sheehan, Ringgenberg, Hartnett, Storm and Jensen Law Firm in Dakota Dunes and Sioux City. In 1985, Jensen received a B.S. from Bethel College, St. Paul, MN and a juris doctorate from The University of South Dakota in 1988.
Jensen, a native of Wakonda, has been in the private practice of law for 14 years. His primary practice area has been in litigation. He and his wife, Sue, have three children.
Jensen has been active in numerous bar committees and associations, including the South Dakota State Bar Association, Iowa Bar Association, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, and Iowa Trial Lawyers Association. He has also served on numerous civic and charitable boards and committees.
The First circuit District serves Aurora, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson, McCook, Turner and Union Counties.
Jensen will assume these new duties on or about Oct. 1.
