Boys' golf team places fourth at Madison Invitational by Jim Prosser Madison High School hosted an invitational meet involving 13 varsity Class A and AA golf teams in an 18-hole competition at the Madison Country Club on Monday, Sept.15.
The top five teams scores were: 1. Madison � 313; 2. (tie) Mitchell and Brookings � 319; 4. Vermillion � 325; and 5. Milbank � 334.
Medalist was James Green of Madison with a 72. The other top five individuals were: Mike Price (Todd County) � 74; Scott O'Brian (Brookings) � 75; fourth (tie), Nathan Boots (VHS) and Chris Gates (Mitchell) � 77. Placing 10th was Vermillion's Brad Schaack (80).
Other Tanager members were; Chris Moen and Alex Schaack (84 each); Jordan Boots (90); and Broc Gauer (95).
Coach Kirk Hogen was somewhat satisfied with the results on the course which will host the State A tournament.
"Our goal must be to improve each Tanager golfer's score by one stroke per nine holes," he said. "If we reach that goal, we can be right in the thick of the chase for the state championship."
