Eagles compete at Scotland tourney The Irene-Wakonda Junior High Eagles football team traveled to Scotland to play in a jamboree football tournament during the Highlander Festival this past Saturday.
The first game of the tournament for the Irene-Wakonda Eagles was against Tripp-Delmont. Leading the offensive charge was Eric Anderson scoring three touchdowns and one extra point and Josh Nielson kicked the other. On defense the blue shirts didn't let Tripp-Delmot even come close to scoring. Final score was 21-0 in favor of the Eagles. The Eagles raise their record to 2-0 on the year.
The Eagles suffered their first loss of the season against an aggressive and big Scotland team by a score of 22-0. Their season record falls to 2-1.
The Eagles regrouped for their last game and came out with an aggressive attitude against the Montrose Irish. The final score was 24-0. Again, the scoring was led by Eric Anderson with two touchdowns and the extra point was scored by Josh Nielson.
The Eagles raise their record to 3-1 on the year with this win. Defensively the blue shirts didn't give Montrose a yard. The Eagles played smothering defense all game. The Eagles did come away with one interception by Chris Peterson. Great team defense once again.
The Irene-Wakonda Junior High football team traveled to Centerville on Monday to take on the Tornadoes. The Eagles were victorious again by a score of 28-6. Leading the charge offensively for the Eagles were Eric Anderson with a two yard scamper for a touchdown and two extra points. Jordan Mayer scored on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Josh Nielson. Henry Hauger scored on a 30 yard touchdown pass from Josh Nielson and Josh Nielson also scored on a broken pass play and scampered 40 yards for a touchtdown to cap the scoring for the game.
Defensively, the blue shirts created havoc for the Tornadoes by causing six fumbles and the blue shirts recovered four of them. Eric Anderson recovered two. Andy Peterson and Skyler Bender each recovered one.
The Eagles also recorded one interception hauled in by Luke Lebert. Again the Eagles had an impressive outing on defense. Great job!
The Irene-Wakonda Jr. High team will play on Monday in Wakonda against Dell Rapids St. Mary's.
