Four schools compete in Tanager invitational meet by Jim Prosser Four schools were represented at the Vermillion Invitational Cross Country Meet, Friday, Sept. 19, with competition in both varsity and JV, boys' and girls' divisions.
Team points for the boys' varsity division were: SC Heelan � 15; West Sioux � 47; Elk Point/Jefferson � 52 ; and Vermillion � 53.
First runner across the finish line was Heelan's Nick Murphy with a time of 17:16 on the old golf course complex (new USD cross country facility). There were 31 runners in this division.
The Tanagers were running with a short handed roster due to illness, injury, or personal conflicts. Justin Manning was second at 17:44 to lead the Vermillion contingent. Other finishers were: Chad Tiegen � eighth; A.J. Manning � 18th; Casey Carlson � 25th; Mitch Bierle � 30th; and Caleb Berry � 31st.
For the varsity girls, team points were: West Sioux � 21; Heelan � 29; Vermillion � 48; and EPJ (incomplete team).
Jessica Pape (H) came in first with a 15:20 time. Tanager placers were: Katarina Gombocz � third (16.16); Emily Renner � 12th; Theresa Ring � 17th; Kati Dehner � 19th; Nicki Nelson � 21st; Tera Dehner � 22nd; Lindsey Isaacson � 25th; and Kayla Mollet � 33rd.
JV boys' team scores were not computed. Alex VanRoeckel (EPJ) was first timed at 16:04 in the 4K. C.J. Harden and Raleigh Tiahart were seventh and eighth, in that order.
Girls' JV individual winner: Heelan's Jen Barkely (19:30). Vermillion had no runners in this division. (Vermillion girls all ran in the varsity division, only).
