Gas prices begin to drop

Gas prices begin to drop AAA's monthly fuel gauge survey Sept. 16 showed the state-wide average price of gasoline in South Dakota is about $1.674, down about 2.3 cents since Aug. 26 when the state-wide average was about $1.697.

The average price of gasoline in Sioux Falls is at $1.605, down 10.6 cents from Aug. 26, while the Rapid City average has increased 4.1 cents to $1.793 per gallon during the same time period.

Nationwide, the average price of gasoline is at $1.687, down 3.1 cents since Aug. 26 when the average was 1.718.

Prices moved sharply higher at the end of August due to higher crude oil prices, rising demand for gasoline, a drop in gasoline imports and a series of problems with domestic gasoline refineries and a pipeline break.
