Homecoming to be celebrated Sept. 26 by Nicole Mosberger The Wakonda-Irene Eagles are pumped up and ready for their first homecoming game and celebration ever.
Both communities will celebrate in their own traditional ways and then come together for their game at the Irene field at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 to take on the Ethan-Emery Seahawks.
Wakonda's coronation will be held on Monday, Sept. 22. It starts at 7 p.m. A pep rally and bonfire will follow the crowning of the king and queen.
During the week students are given a license to throw out their usual dress code and to follow dress-up days of Spirit Week.
The seniors have picked the following days to show Wakonda spirit: Monday is Western Day, Tuesday is Retro day, Wednesday is Beach/Hawaiian Day, Thursday is Super Hero/Halloween Day, and Friday is Spirit Day.
Wakonda's parade will start at noon on Friday hosting the theme "Song Titles" for any floats and participants. Irene's theme will be "Cereals."
The homecoming dance will follow the football game on Friday for both Wakonda and Irene students. It begins at 9 p.m. and ends at midnight.
